SEAMUS HEANEY – SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI

Seamus Heaney
1939-2013

There is a picture of him,
Imago mundi.
At the kitchen table,
Planed oak and words,
Pen-poised:
Enveloped by cabinets of condiments,
And of curiosities.

There is the spirit of him,
Stupor mundi.
Touching the horizon,
Planed oak and words,
Pen-poised:
Charcoal-rubbed visions of ancient lore,
And of now.

There is the wake of him,
Sic transit Gloria mundi.
Through the forest of grief,
Planed oak and words,
Pen-poised:
The pigment heart drained,
Deep in the northern grit.
